I was a bit shocked by the overwhelming response. Also a bit nervous since the YA I wrote falls on the edgy side.

I was a teen who jumped from YA books around 14 and started reading adult ones--stephen king, vc andrews, etc.. Book that had violence and or sex throughout. I wasn't a bad or rebellious kid. I was doing drugs or having sex. But I was curious about adult things and saw them going on around me. Wholesome stories about high school students didn't seem realistic. (And I went to a sheltered catholic school. I can only imagine what my public school peers were seeing in their hallways.)

I don't think YA should be gratuitous, but it should be relatable to teens.Roni Lorenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02719679344024635326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4421829062557944335.post-40733125427067369172009-09-17T13:34:13.104-07:002009-09-17T13:34:13.104-07:00Thanks! And I absolutely agree on the twelve year olds - really, I guess my thing is I want people to write strong realistic characters for their age and setting. Makes me a happy reader. :)Cate Kariaxihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01812494549402252779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4421829062557944335.post-41714490959283554212009-09-17T13:18:43.685-07:002009-09-17T13:18:43.685-07:00Great post!

Could not be more true.
And twelve year olds don't think like six year olds, etc., etc., etc.!Tere Kirklandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13562750950130316280noreply@blogger.com
